Vintage Wooden Candle Holder with Finger Handle by Wattle Products

$28.00

A functional little Queensland-made wooden candle holder with a drip tray and a finger loop handle, by Wattle Products of Brisbane. Warm brown timber with light wear. 8.5cm tall.

Availability: 1 in stock

This vintage wooden candle holder is a functional little Queensland-made piece in warm brown timber, with a flat round base, a dished drip tray and a loop handle for carrying.

Holders with a finger loop like this are called chambersticks, and they were made to be carried from room to room. This one has a tapered cup for the candle, a dished collar underneath to catch the drips and a wide base that keeps it steady. It’s by Wattle Products, formed by Frank O’Brien in 1948 to make hand painted ornamental souvenirs and woodware. The family-owned woodturning business continues today, based in Salisbury, Brisbane.

Pop a taper candle in it and put it on a bedside table, hall table or mantel, or use it as a rustic accent in a country or mid-century room. The timber looks lovely against whitewashed brick and sits nicely beside our green shear top ink bottle and pewter trinket bowl (both listed separately). The vintage matchbox in the photos is for scale and styling and isn’t included.

Condition: Good vintage condition. The timber has light surface marks and wear consistent with age. There’s old candle wax left in the socket (see photos), which we haven’t tried to remove. We can’t find any cracks, splits or repairs, and the handle is sound.

Dimensions: 8.5cm high × 15cm wide

Care: Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth, and don’t soak it or put it in the dishwasher. A little furniture wax will freshen the timber. Use a candle that fits snugly, and never leave a burning candle unattended or let it burn down to the wood.

We ship Australia-wide, and local pickup from Mt Coolum, Qld is available by arrangement.
